Lent begins in 3 days. A penitential season where Catholics focus on preparing hearts and souls for the Easter season. Preparation, prayer, fasting, and almsgiving are the hallmarks of these next 40 days. What better time to begin a ritual, which increases marital satisfaction, such as regular prayer in your marriage. If you are looking for a resource that you and your spouse can do together this Lent let me suggest Cana 90*.
During Advent this year my husband and I committed to completing an advent retreat together. Every night we planned to read the scripture, share the reflection, and share in a verbal prayer. We missed several nights because of illness, fussy children, travel schedules, and our own selfish desires for comfort over prayer. Despite our inconsistency, the Lord showered us with graces, and our marriage grew stronger. This Lent I encourage you to pray together as a couple, the benefits are many! Also stay tuned, I am planning an audio blog post of my husband and I talking about the difficulties and rewards of couple prayer.
